Bryotechnology facilitates the production of reliable, production cell lines which are stable in the long run. These cells in turn produce the glycoproteins – refined by bryotechnology – in photo bioreactors according to pharmaceutical standards. This guarantees a cost-efficient, robust and reliable large scale production for our customers.
Bryo-MasterTM: Production of therapeutic proteins in stable moss cell lines
At the beginning, moss protonema is cultivated in photobioreactors. The moss tissue is harvested and treated with special enzymes which digest the cell wall of the moss plants. Moss cells without cell wall emanate from this process – the so-called protoplasts. Next, the moss protoplasts are transfected with DNA (red) coding for the desired product. The DNA is stably integrated into the genome of the moss cell. After regeneration of the cell wall best producer cell lines are identified among the modified moss plants. Next, the selected moss plants are cultivated in photobioreactors. The moss protonema is producing the desired product in a sustainable manner and the therapeutic proteins are secreted into the medium. The products are already existent in the bioreactor in an extraordinary quality and purity before the downstream processing.
