Biopharmaceuticals

To date the company has successfully produced, according to the customer's requirements, a range of antibodies such as those used in the cancer therapy as well as other therapeutic proteins for different indications, and has delivered them for preclinical tests.

An interesting example for the therapeutic potential of the use of the bryotechnology is a so-called ADCC-mediating antibody. This antibody is directed at cancer cells and mediates the desired cell toxicity (the lysis or destruction, respectively, of antibody-marked cells by killer cells of the immune system as effectors) in an incredibly efficient way. The modification of the attached sugar structures leads to the reinforcement of the described effector function and thus to the more effective destruction of the cancer cells. The best kind of sugar structure for this can be customized by the procedure of the glycoengineering.

Antikörper mit Zuckerstruktur

Antibodies possess a specific glycan structure
which influences their function.

Glycoengineering

By genetic deletion of certain enzymes,
the structure of antibodies can be optimized.

Nowadays, in the research facility of greenovation at Freiburg new products are developed for costumers and small quantities of glycoproteins are produced for the R&D departments of the international pharma- and biotechindustry.
